Extraordinary History
The Mountain Mermaid, originally built as a country club in 1930, is a declared California historic site. Throughout the years, it has variously been a youth camp, gambling house, theatre, gay nightclub and a celebrated classical chamber music venue.
It fell into a state of disrepair and was nearly demolished in the 1980s. In the 1990s it was purchased by the current owner and restored to its former magnificence. Today, among other things, The Mountain Mermaid is a botanic garden, wedding venue, butterfly farm, and yoga retreat center
